David Karp brought the true Greengage over from Europe and planted an orchard of the trees at Andy's Orchards around 6 years ago. Before that time, this fruit was not to be found in America.
Whenever they come into season, especially in Paris, there's an immediate frenzy making them almost impossible to nab. They are the traditional french plum used for jams, tarts, and eau de vie. Luckily, we know some kind farmers who give us the first pick of the finest plum variety. The quantity we received this year was very small - so we don't have many cases of this jam -- but (!) the taste is unforgettable...and mighty.
